What is the “Cloud?”

of the cloud.
An analogy might be the information contained in a book. Let’s say you have a library in your home, maybe you even have a set of encyclopedias. You can access the books that you have at any time, and you can get more books. However, at some point your ability to store the books will limit the number that you can have and therefore access.
Next
came libraries. Their basic function is the collection, storage
and lending of huge numbers of books thousands more than the average person could store in their homes. The average person can go to the library and have access, with a library card, to borrow any book that is physically at the library, vastly increasing the amount of information available to all. Still, however, the physical storage of books has a limit within libraries. They can only collect and store as many books as they have room for. Further, if there is a disaster, such as a fire or flood, all of the books may be lost forever. But what if there was no physical limitation? What if the information was stored not in a physical location, but rather on the Internet, existing as a series of code that can be accessed simply with a connection? This is the basic nature of cloud computing and it is revolutionizing the evolution of the Internet.
In
recent years, large-scale Internet-based storage has become
viable because it’s much less expensive and becoming more so all the time. Therefore, remote-based software, coming from servers all over the world instead being located on your computer, combined with the ever-improving speed of the Internet allows for even the smallest of devices, like smartphones, to run the most sophisticated applications available.
